So it turns out I didn’t actually do much Black Friday shopping this year, but, whilst I was in Vegas over the summer for my birthday I was most certainly feeling spendy. With multiple trips to Sephora, (you can read all about my Sephora haul here) I just couldn’t leave without a trip to the drugstore too. Luckily in Vegas, the drugstores are all around – Walgreens at The Venetian and Planet Hollywood, CVS at The Cosmopolitan and at Treasure Island – so plenty of beauty aisles to walk up and down scouting out the best deals.
1. Wet n Wild Eyeshadow Trio in Walking on Eggshells ($2.99)
My mind is blown with this one. How is this palette so cheap, yet so pigmented? It’s just THREE DOLLARS. That’s just ONE DOLLAR per shade! These eyeshadows are just perfect for three reasons: 1. The formula. For a drugstore product, these shades are really pigmented. Not to mention so wearable too, in this particular palette. 2. Each shade comes labelled with the part of your eye you should apply to – Browbone, Crease, Eyelid – so it’s not only a lifesaver for any make up beginners, but it includes an entire everyday look that’s quick and easy. 3. It’s so small and compact that it’s ideal for travelling. It’s a true bargain, that’s for sure!
2. L’Oreal La Palette Nude ($19.99)
This is something that I have eyed up before so I wasn’t going to let go of it this time. First off I have to say, why has this exact product not made it’s way over to the UK? We do have some type of a ‘La Palette Nude’ from L’Oreal, it’s a much more compact palette in terms of the packaging but I wasn’t impressed with the shade range at all. I’m a bronzey kinda gal when it comes to eyeshadows so the US version had my name written all over it. It has all the shades you need for a bronzey, smokey eye – they are pigmented, blendable and long-wearing, so it’s a great drugstore buy.
3. Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso ($9.99)
A shimmery peach shade that is so highly pigmented and so beautiful that it’s left me wondering why the hell it’s taken me years to try this out! Whilst the outer packaging is nothing special (FYI, the gold does take away a little of the cheapness), it’s what is inside that counts here – there’s not only the product itself, but also a mirror hiding away in a secret compartment underneath the blush pan. The blush itself as I mentioned is highly pigmented, so you only need the tiniest amount of product on your brush, but it’s going to give you a beautiful, healthy looking glow.
4. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm ($5.99)
So with this next purchase I know what you are going to think…why didn’t you just get this back at home in the UK? The honest answer is, I have no idea! Well, I kind of just forget that NYX is now here in the UK as I usually head to my local Boots store with a wish list in hand so I can get in and get out quickly. So whilst I had a little more time on my hands I thought I would explore the NYX counter at CVS. Having walked away with a handful of products, I have found a new fave. Stockholm is a nude, brown shade perfect for everyday wear. These aren’t the easiest to apply however, the colour definitely needs building up to become fully opaque, but at least this gives you the flexibility to wear it as sheer or opaque as you want. Once fully opaque these are going to wear well on the lips but without feeling too drying, and they will fade quite naturally during the day, so it’s worth topping up after food. None the less, a great drugstore find, and the compact size makes them so easy to throw into your bag.
5. China Glaze Nail Polish in ‘Lets Chalk about it’
It’s a very light pink creme shade from their SS16 collection that’s the perfect in-between to a stark white and a ballerina pink. It’s such an easy shade to wear, even in these colder months, that it’s become my go-to everyday shade. With three coats it’s fully opaque and as always with my manicures finish with a gel top coat for extra longevity.
